An uneasy feeling filled him. He was afraid , lost for words. He could not talk - Not before him. "How could this be possible, i am his superior!". His reason intervened - "Only in rank!".
Tense chatters clouded the space. As the chatter grew,so did their spirits.Hope was born, all was well, all will be. Chatters receded, as cheer filled its void. They all fell silent. The sound of his footsteps, seemed to thunder. The storm after the Calm. Up a cliff, which looked a colossal podium, there climbed a man, solid as rock, carved like a statue, hands clenched, face tilted horizontal in contemplation. As their Star rose on the west, the dwarf faded in the east.
There stood their Champion.
He gave hope to all, he kept none for himself."
The last line is a dedication to you - J.R.R., or is most of the post?

A mythology unbound by time or any other frontier. Truly amazing the work. Was able to appreciate the amount of work put into the book, only after writing this post. Such a lot of mental effort involved!!

Truth be said, only one face ran through my mind as I read the post. That of Viggo Mortensen. Couldn't help it. Though the narrative is at some level beyond me, smiled at the dedication to JRR, realizing that there has been some connection at some other level.

Sir and if you like Viggo Mortensen that much you should watch the LOTR series.. too good a movie to miss. The technical aspects are better than even AVATAR. I thought AVATAR was a mockery of certain LOTR scenes (James Cameron had said LOTR had inspired him that AVATAR was ready to be made)!! Watch the movie if you like (1) Good visuals and photography, (2) Great Music and (3) Philosophy (an incidental aspect in the movie for many, but i know you wont miss them)

ReplyDeleteThe post essentially aims to say two things - 1. It aims to define a true champion (champion as in who inspires others (by sheer excellence in whatever he does - guess its my definition)) and why a person is perceived a champion. 2.It seeks to throw light on what the presence of a Champion inspires amongst those inspired by him.
I recently while talking to a friend made the following statement "If there is a person with a vision and who is implementing that vision, all those who seek to accomplish something similar are drawn towards him/her". I realised then that i had formed that opinion just then. So this post was a part outcome of reflection on that statement - on the reasons why it is true in most cases.

ReplyDeleteHave seen two parts of the LOTR. Matrix not yet. Again, I like or dislike a movie, more because of intensity / strength of the characters, rather than action gimmicks or animations. I admit that locale and backdrops and music plays a great role in accentuating the characters shades / strength. Thats why I like Viggo Mortenesen. He carries some aura around him, which makes him look a warrior. Not just restricted to LOTR. Even in Eastern Promises / Hidalgo / Appaloosa, he had such characters. A post on him is long due. Some day.
As to the Champion, I remember my English teacher from Class XI. While teaching a chapter titled "Olympic Gold" by Cassius Clay aka Mohd. Ali, she said, Champion is not a person who wins medals, but people. By inspiring them. That definition of Champion stuck with me till date. Nice to note the same stuff in your mind also.
